About this skill
The Searching guide places consent, explanation and positioning alongside a consistent search sequence. Its checklist asks staff to explain the contact involved and keep the person informed through the process.
Use this video as a discussion point before supervised practice. Ask the group to identify how a search begins, how its stages are communicated and how a person can raise a concern. Compare those observations with the training and written procedure used by your workplace.
The library also includes separate demonstrations of a physical search, self-search, a wand search and a bag search. Each gives a different focus for a structured refresher.
What to focus on
- Review how the search is explained before it begins.
- Discuss communication throughout the check.
- Connect preparation and positioning with your training.
- Identify any uncertainty to resolve before practical work.
When this is useful
