About this skill

This topic connects with the Refusing entry guide, which provides examples of communicating decisions about identification, appointments, dress code and capacity. It can be used to examine how a venue requirement becomes a conversation at the door.

Ask the group to identify the policy behind a sample decision, then explain the outcome in a short, clear sentence. Discuss which questions the officer can resolve and which need a supervisor’s input.

The separate Key triggers lesson provides a companion topic. Together they give a trainer material for discussing both the decision and the way it is delivered.

What to focus on

  • Identify the venue policy relevant to an entry decision.
  • Practise communicating the outcome clearly.
  • Clarify the role of a supervisor in resolving questions.
  • Connect the discussion with the key-triggers lesson.

When this is useful
